So Apple is the coolest brand.
The company behind iconic products such as the iPhone, iPad and iPod has been voted the coolest of the CoolBrands in Britain by voters from the public and a panel of 38 key influencers.

Number two on the list was the sports car maker Aston Martin and third was high-end watch maker Rolex.

Interestingly, also in the Top 10 was Glastonbury – the music festival (and usually mud festival!).

So, what makes a cool brand?

It’s all fairly subjective I would have thought, but voters were asked to bear in mind the following criteria: style; innovation; originality; authenticity; desirability; and uniqueness.

That’s a pretty fair list, but could a fleet management company ever make the cool list?

“We were voted Best Company to Work for in Scotland and achieved fifth place overall in the UK, alongside such big names as IKEA, Microsoft and Coca Cola.”

Unlikely given the criteria because coolness is also based on items you want and desire; what we do is facilitate use through the supply of financial services and management expertise.

Whether that’s the desire of a company car driver for the newest premium model on the market or the fleet manager’s desire to contain costs and lower CO2 – we service that desire and make it real, make it happen.

But we do perform this service with authenticity – ask the people who work here at Fleet Alliance. Although we take our jobs seriously, we have a huge amount of fun doing it.

We’ve been recognised for this – we were voted Best Company to Work for in Scotland and achieved fifth place overall in the Best Place to Work in the UK, alongside such big names as IKEA, Microsoft and Coca Cola.

Now, however, we have a new award: we have been voted Best Small Fleet Leasing Company by Business Car Manager in the inaugural Small Fleet Leasing Awards.

And much of this has to do with the unseen things that make a company successful – even if it’s never going to quite make the cool list.

And that’s good people delivering excellent customer service through robust business processes backed up by sound industry expertise.

I am really thrilled to win this award – not just for me but everyone here at Fleet Alliance that makes it such a great place to work. Because it’s recognition. Recognition of our expertise in the small fleet leasing market voted for by people who understand the business of leasing.

As well as the overall title we also won two categories: Best Small Fleet Leasing Company over 250 sales and Best Small Fleet Leasing Programme.

So, we might not be as cool as Apple, Aston Martin or Rolex but winning the best in sector accolade for Best Small Fleet Leasing Company – now that is cool.

We’re not cool, but we are award winning

Five firm favourites from Frankfurt

In last week’s blog I had a peep under the sheets to see what we could expect at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show. It looked pretty exciting. But now I’ve had a chance to look around and – yes – it was fairly fantastic! Choosing five of my favourites was – well, tricky – there … Continued

A peep under the sheets at Frankfurt

September and an odd numbered year. That means only one thing (and not just an autumn that’s full of mists and mellow fruitfulness, although I suspect we’ll get that too). No, I’m talking about the Frankfurt Motor Show. This pantheon to the German motoring industry is just enormous. Massive. Gargantuan. If you ever consider going, … Continued

Are company car drivers still the road-burning stereotype?

Surveys: it must be that time of year again. And it’s always easy to take a pop at the company car driver or the paid-for fleet car. One survey I read suggested that drivers of BMWs and Audis are ‘arrogant’ and ‘rude’, and their drivers are considered the most unloved on the road. While top … Continued

It’s time to ditch the tax disc

Would you drive your car without a tax disc? Probably not. And quite rightly so. You’d fret. And worry. And probably think we hadn’t done our job correctly. But this could happen. And it worries me. And do you know what’s daft? It’s a result of a commendably good idea to modernise and streamline the … Continued

Five fleet management tips

I was chatting to a friend of mine the other day in a bar (not an unusual occurrence for me, I must admit) and the question of jobs came up. “So what do you actually do?” my friend quizzed. “Well, I run a leasing and fleet management company,” I replied. “Yeah, I sort of know … Continued

Middle laners get marginalised to the left

‘Hey you! Get over!’ How many times have you curdled with frustration at other drivers’ ill-mannered and plain incorrect driving? (I know we’re supposed to stay calm while driving, but sometimes, honestly….) You know what I’m talking about. The middle lane road hog. The smug-in-the-seat-I-feel-safe-in-this-lane-driver. But, c’mon on guys, look at those other motorists around … Continued

Five fleet cars for five per cent tax

If I mention hydrogen to you, what image do you first think of? The Hindenburg airship going up in flames in 1937 – or a Hyundai SUV? For me it’s the former, certainly. Yet last week Hyundai announced that they would be launching a production version of its ix35 SUV powered by a fuel cell … Continued

Recognition for the fun of serious customer service

We’re on something of a roll here. Deservedly so, I would say! But following our success as the Best Company to Work at in Scotland and our rating as one of the Best Companies to Work at in the UK by Great Place to Work Institute – rubbing shoulders with high street names such Coca … Continued

Company car drivers made redundant

I’m sorry to tell you this. But someone must. To all company car drivers – you’re now redundant. Yes, that’s right, P45’d. No – and before you ask – this isn’t some UK-wide cost cutting, axe-wielding exercise by the UK’s new CEO of fleet. None of that. It’s the introduction of the autonomous car. Now … Continued
