Process for private plate removal

Before Collection

In order to remove the private plate from a lease vehicle, please complete a V317 form as follows:

  • Section 1 – To retain
  • Section 2 – Complete your vehicle details, please complete these only – the registered keeper section will be completed by the finance company – leave blank
  • Section 3 – Leave blank
  • Section 4 – Complete the grantee details and sign the grantee box only

The document then needs to be sent to us, along with a cheque made payable to the DVLA for £80. We will then send on to the finance company on your behalf.

After Delivery

In order to place the private plate onto a lease vehicle, please follow the steps below to complete the V778:

  • Section 1 – Complete the reg that is currently on the vehicle you wish to place your private registration onto. Please also sign and date.
  • Section 2 – Complete this as a finance company.
  • Section 6 –  Sign and date.

If your vehicle is funded through Arval or Lex Autloease, you will also need to complete a declaration document.

The documentation then needs to be sent to us, we will then send on to the finance company on your behalf.

Private Plate Fees

DVLA always charge £80 admin fee for removal of plate (retention). Funder-specific admin fees also apply. These vary from £25 to £125+VAT.
