My five fab LCVs of 2015

December 2015

Not only was 2015 a great year for cars, there was plenty going on in the world of commercial vehicles, too.

So, seeing as I had already picked my five favourite cars from 2015, I thought I’d take a look at the five commercial vehicles that have taken my eye over the past year.

Whether it’s pick-ups or vans that you prefer, there’s a fantastic range of commercials for you to choose from. Do you agree with my choice?

1. Mercedes Vito

With the latest Vito, Mercedes is hoping this van will come out of the shadows of its bigger brother – the Sprinter. Still impressively made, the new Vito now offers the choice of front and rear-drive versions, two wheelbases and three body lengths. On top of this, the new Vito is easy to drive, rides better than some cars and still has the prestige of the three-pointed star badge both front and back!

2. Mitsubishi L200

Next year’s growth in the commercial market is going to be led by a number of new pick-ups to the market and this is one of them. On top of the expected off-road ability, the new L200 is different from the previous five-generations of this Mitsubishi pick-up, as it adds a new level of off-road drivability that wasn’t there before.

3. Nissan Navara NP300

Just as we thought Mitsubishi had the pick-up market all its own way, Nissan revealed new versions of its popular pick-up in September. After a first drive in November, with its car-like multi-link suspension and crossover interior features borrowed from the Qashqai, has it gone soft elsewhere? No, as the payload is still 1,052kg and it has got a 3,500kg towing capacity.

4. Volkswagen Caddy

More evolution than revolution, the new Caddy looks like an angular version of the old model. Get past the looks and you soon realise that there’s more to the new Caddy than the metalwork – as it boasts a new range of class-leading safety kit borrowed from Volkswagen car models, plus improved convenience and comfort features.

5. Volkswagen Transporter

It has been a bumper year for new Volkswagen vans. On top of a new Caddy, we were treated to a new Transporter – the T6. Like the Caddy,My though, the T6 is a rework of the T5 formula – so think evolutionary design. Big changes have taken place underneath; on top of the car-like and curvy dash, this Transit rival boast plenty of new safety kit and an even more refined drive than before.
