If you want to work in financial services then you should be considering Fleet Alliance. Easy to say, of course, but why should you choose Fleet Alliance?

The answer is right here: our certification as one of the UK’s Best Workplaces in Financial Services & Insurance.

We’re in the Small & Medium financial services category, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Circle, Dudley Building Society and iM Global Partner, not to mention the Large & Super Large companies also recognised, such as Mobilize Financial Services, Aviva and Fisher Investments UK.

The Best Workplaces in Financial Services & Insurance are pulled from Great Place To Work Certified companies – Fleet Alliance has been awarded this status for 12 successive years – which have selected Financial Services & Insurance as their primary industry.

The Great Place to Work then analyses employee responses based on a variety of factors, but majoring on Trust and Maximising Human Potential and to a lesser extent on factors such as Leadership Effectiveness, Innovation By All and Values.

As a result, Fleet Alliance scored 88% from its employees saying it was a great place to work compared with 54% of employees at a typical UK business. Other notable scores included:

  • 100% said Fleet Alliance is a physically safe place to work.
  • 99% said people at Fleet Alliance are treated fairly regardless of their race.
  • 99% said people at Fleet Alliance are treated fairly regardless of their sexual orientation.
  • 97% said that when they joined the company they were made to feel welcome.
  • 97% said that all employees are treated fairly regardless of their age.

So you can see why we think Fleet Alliance is a great place to work in financial services – the fact that we specialise in award-winning sustainable mobility doesn’t preclude employees from joining us if they don’t have knowledge of vehicles or fleet management.

We are a service-oriented business with a company culture built around the four pillars of our programme called ‘Fleet Alliance Loves’. These pillars are Fairness, Trust, Engagement and Respect and fully inform how we treat employees and how employees respect each other, as well as those less fortunate.

In contrast to the sector’s reputation for high-pressure work environments, featuring long hours and late nights, the UK’s Best Workplaces in Financial Services & Insurance found that companies such as Fleet Alliance are prioritising fun and camaraderie to boost engagement, wellbeing, motivation and enjoyment into the daily employee experience.

We have deep relationships with charities where fundraising and practical assistance forms an integral part of the working experience, ranging from helping to clear out the overgrown vegetation at the gardens of Beatson Cancer Charity  to fun events such as our baking day and coffee morning to support the charity Maggie’s.

My impression of working at Fleet Alliance – Selena Drake

Selena at Fleet Alliance
Selena Drake, People & Culture Advisor

To confirm these views, we asked Selena Drake, our new People & Culture Advisor of just five months, what attracted her to the company initially:

“Arriving for my interview, I was immediately struck by how friendly everyone was and how people in different teams seemed to be working together,” she says.

“It was a warm, welcoming environment – and when I started working in the business, I could see my first impressions were right.

“What also appealed to me was that Fleet Alliance stands out when it comes to its commitment to sustainable mobility. Currently, 72% of our vehicles are electric or hybrid and every step is being taken to bring us to net-zero. It’s not just empty words.

“The third thing that initially attracted me was the benefits package. You can tell a lot about what a business really values in the benefits it offers, and Fleet Alliance’s benefits suggested to me the business cares about its people and their lives outside work, along with their wellbeing.

“Everything from the generous holiday entitlement, to the flexi-time and monthly flexi-hours, two duvet days each year, a volunteering day, regular wellbeing sessions, free flu vaccinations, and all the other benefits available, I’m absolutely loving getting access to all of these things.”

And now, having worked at Fleet Alliance for these last five months, have the working conditions lived up to Selena’s expectations?

“Definitely!” I would say, continues Selena. “I genuinely enjoy going into the office. My colleagues always make me feel good, even on the rainiest of days. At lunchtime I can sit with anyone – everyone is super welcoming, and I feel like I can really be myself around them.”

But what are the opinions of those that have had extended careers at Fleet Alliance? What has kept them in the business for so long?

Kevin Blackmore, Marketing Manager

Kevin Blackmore is Fleet Alliance’s Marketing Manager and has enjoyed a career of more than  20 years with Fleet Alliance. So what’s the secret ingredient that keeps Kevin coming back every day?

“It’s a combination of factors, really,” explains Kevin. “These include the open doors – even at the top of the business; management who lead from the front yet trust me to get on with my job without micromanaging; an impressive benefits package; and, ultimately, a great team of people. It’s a powerful combination.”

Given Kevin’s experience at the company. Would he say the environment has changed in any way since he first arrived at the doors of Fleet Alliance?

“As success drives growth – and Fleet Alliance has been and continues to be successful –  it’s easy for a business to lose focus and treat people like corporate assets,” he says. “Fleet Alliance has managed to avoid that pitfall – and not by accident.”

Kevin continues: “ I felt valued when we were 10 people, and I feel just as valued now we’re a team of over 100. Ironically, it’s the fact that the business hasn’t changed its core approach that’s the most impressive thing to me!”

So if you are considering a career in the financial services industry, then consider how it would benefit you to be part of the Fleet Alliance family – and enjoy a working environment that is certified as a Great Place to Work.
